The Yoda Soccer Project Is A SWOS continuation.
The Yoda Soccer Project was started in 2002 and registered as a game in 2003. It was the developers’ desire to continue the Sensible World Of Soccer series known as SWOS. They wanted an easily playable and funny game to follow the then defunct SWOS series. They released the source code for the game as GNU General Public License, which also means you can probably find the game for free somewhere on the internet.
Why Try To Continue SWOS?
The Sensible World of Soccer game was developed by Sensible Software, and it was the 1994 sequel to their 1992 game Sensible Soccer, in which they combined a 2D football game with a comprehensive manager mode. It was ground breaking in its day, and many people enjoyed the game. By today’s standards, it is more like a puzzle app than a soccer game, but people still loved it and lost many hours to it.
Nostalgia and a yearning for the past is what compelled the developers to bring the game back to life, but they couldn’t do it under its original name for trademark and design right reasons, so they called it the Yoda Soccer Project.
A Copy Of The Sensible World Of Soccer
The Sensible World Of Soccer was and is available on the platforms Amiga, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, DOS, and MS-DOS. As you can imagine, given the time it was released and for which devices, that the game doesn’t have great graphics or a comprehensive and in-depth gameplay feel or dynamic. The game is fierily simple.
New And Old Features
The game uses a worldwide database and it is a multi-platform game. You can arrange custom leagues and cups, and there are different weather effects to enjoy. The weather effects are snow, wind, rain and fog.
If you pull off a good move, then you can see your actions in slow motion. There are 21 standard kit styles and custom character sets. The players have 10 colours and there are over 40 different haircuts (which is more than you get in North Korea). There is a teams and players editor, and there is a tactics editor along with highlights of the games and goal celebration sequences.
Pros

- Similar to SWOS
- A fun game that is similar to a modern puzzle game
Cons
- Graphics resemble 1994
- They could have done more with this game over the years
- More of a nostalgia game
